Boat Documents Organizer: one place for every piece of boat paperwork
The Boat Galley Boat Documents Organizer is a binder built specifically for a boat's paperwork, holding up to 400 sheets of full-size (8.5 x 11 inch or A4) documents and coming pre-loaded with cruiser-designed checklists of the documents to have aboard plus a Personal Health Summary form for each person aboard.
The hard part of boat paperwork isn't storing it: it's finding the right document fast during a marina check-in, a Coast Guard boarding, an insurance claim, or hurricane prep. With everything organized in one place, you can grab what you need and go.
Designed around boating paperwork, not generic office filing
A plain office binder or a folder of empty pockets leaves you to figure out what to carry and where to put it. This organizer was designed by experienced cruisers around the documents a boat actually accumulates, so the structure already matches the job.
Built-in checklists tell you which documents to have aboard, and a zippered interior pouch keeps passports and small valuables tucked away inside. The binder closes with a simple elastic band that loops over a button, with no exterior zipper to corrode or jam in salt air; the one zipper is on the protected interior pouch. The included Personal Health Summary form keeps critical medical information for each crew member ready in an emergency.
For the smaller number of cruisers who leave U.S. waters, it also includes a "Tips for Checking In to a Foreign Country" sheet.
Water-resistant construction protects your documents from the occasional splash and holds up in hot, humid conditions. The cover is made from durable plastic and black polyester fabric rather than leather, which rots in hot, humid marine air. It is not waterproof or fireproof, but it is sized and built for everyday onboard storage rather than an office shelf.
What it holds
With room for up to 400 sheets of full-size (8.5 x 11 inch or A4) paper, the organizer has space for the multi-page documents a boat owner carries, including:
- Registration and USCG Certificate of Documentation or state title
- Insurance policies and the declaration page
- Hurricane plan and storm-prep checklists
- Surveys and towing insurance
- Radio licenses and equipment serial numbers
- Passports and crew lists, plus clearance papers if you cruise internationally
- Maintenance records and receipts
It suits owners of cruising sailboats, trawlers, powerboats, and Great Loop boats, whether you are out for a weekend or cruising for months. Most owners use it close to home on inland and coastal waters, and it works just as well for those who cross into international ports.
A practical gift for any boat owner
A document organizer is one of the rare boating gifts that is genuinely useful, easy to stow, and the kind of thing few people buy for themselves. Because it fits any boat regardless of make or model, you don't need to know the details of someone's vessel to give it well.
It is especially fitting for someone who has just bought a boat and suddenly has paperwork everywhere, which also makes it a thoughtful gift from a broker to a new owner at closing. Available in blue or gray.

Very valuable and takes a lot of the guesswork out of cruising! Thank you for putting it together!
Hope to use this for future travel on a future trawler. It was nice not searching for the item on my own & the quality looks great.
Quick Reference (page 3). It is great but I didn’t know the answers to some of these. Maybe a list of choices would be helpful? For example an extra page for references,
Hull type: cathedral, deep vee, displacement, flat bottom, round bottom, semi vee, tunnel hull (copied from California Vessel Property Statement). I am still stuck on some and I will have to look online for possible choices or explanations.
